Want to learn new skills, have fun and meet new people? Come and join the team at The Kirkwood's Heckmondwike Shop and help us raise vital funds to care for local people affected by life limiting illnesses across Kirklees.
Every purchase made in our shops helps fund specialist care and support for patients and families when they need us most. By volunteering in our Heckmondwike Shop, you'll play an important part in helping us make the most of every donation and every sale, making sure we can continue supporting local people for years to come.
The Kirkwood relies on a team of amazing volunteers who work alongside our staff to raise funds, care for patients and families, and support our fundraising events. By giving just a few hours of your time each week, you'll help transform generous donations into vital income that makes a real difference across our local community.
No matter how much time you have to spare, you could make a huge difference. If you have a few hours each week and would like to be part of something special, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll have the opportunity to learn new skills, gain valuable retail experience and use your existing talents in a welcoming, supportive and friendly environment.
Even better, however you choose to help, you'll be doing something truly amazing for local people affected by life limiting illnesses here in Kirklees. You'll be helping to improve people's quality of life and supporting them to make the very most of the time they have left, for as long as they can. You'll also be supporting their families and loved ones, helping them find comfort and support during some of life's most difficult moments.

What kind of skills do I need?
As a Retail Volunteer, you don't need any previous retail experience to join us—we're simply looking for enthusiastic, friendly people who want to make a positive difference. If you have any of the following qualities, they'll certainly come in handy:
- Happy working as part of a team
- Friendly and welcoming with customers
- Eager to learn new skills
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail
- Reliable and enthusiastic
- Happy to work in a busy retail environment
Don't worry if you don't have all of these, we'll provide full training and ongoing support to help you build confidence, develop new skills and enjoy your volunteering experience.

What kind of things will I be doing?
No two days are ever the same in our shops and there's always something different to get involved with. Depending on your interests, you could be:
- Welcoming and assisting customers
- Sorting and preparing donated items for sale
- Creating attractive displays throughout the shop
- Helping to keep the shop clean, tidy and well-presented
- Pricing donations and ensuring shelves remain well stocked
- Operating the till and processing customer purchases (full training provided)
- Meeting new people and helping create a friendly atmosphere for everyone who visits
Do you have a specialist interest or hobby?
Do you love fashion? Have an eye for vintage treasures? Enjoy books, homeware, toys or collectibles? Perhaps you simply love chatting to people and providing great customer service.
Whatever your interests or experience, we'd love to hear about them. Your knowledge could help us identify hidden gems, create eye-catching displays or simply provide a fantastic shopping experience for our customers.
If you have a hobby, skill or passion you'd like to put to good use while supporting a local charity, this could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you.

Shop opening hours:
- Monday to Saturday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
- Sunday: 10:00am – 4:00pm
