Paws and Pals get involved with Woolly Pully for second year running!
Paws and Pals, a five star licensed dog day care business based in Huddersfield has agreed to bring a festive twist to fundraising by again joining the Woolly Pulley campaign for a second year running.
As Christmas approached in 2024, Paws and Pals decided to spread festive cheer in the most heart warming way possible.the business which is, based at Britannia Mills, turned their week before the holidays into a celebration of jumpers, community spirit and charity all as part of the Woolly Pulley campaign.
Owner Corinne Waite, who founded the company in 2022, explained how the idea came about: "It was actually one of The Kirkwood team that first emailed us to ask if we’d be interested in joining the Woolly Pulley campaign. We thought it was a lovely idea, so we put it out to our customers on social media to see what they thought. They were really enthusiastic and came back with a definite ‘yes’, which gave us the confidence to go ahead. It felt like a fun way to get our community involved while supporting a really worthwhile cause."
The dog day care ran the event in the week leading up to Christmas, encouraging its four legged attendees to arrive in festive knitwear, Corinne added: "We decided to hold the campaign during the week before Christmas, as that’s the week before we close down for the holidays. We asked our customers to send their dogs in wearing their favourite jumpers, or any jumper, really. We did remind people not to send their pets in their Sunday best because, as you can imagine, dogs love to tug on each other’s clothes when they’re playing! But our customers were fantastic. They really got into the spirit of it, and the dogs looked wonderful."
Many customers went the extra mile to ensure their pets looked the part: "Some of our customers went above and beyond, even buying several different jumpers just to find the one that suited their dog best. That level of effort and care showed how much they wanted to support the campaign and take part. Everyone was such a great sport about it, and we had dogs coming in throughout the week proudly showing off their festive outfits."
Running the initiative across several days made it possible for everyone to get involved: "We chose to run it for a whole week rather than just one day, because not all of our dogs attend on the same day. By doing it this way, we gave everyone the opportunity to get involved. It also meant that we had a steady stream of dogs in jumpers throughout the week, which made it extra special. All in all, we had around 50 dogs take part, which was amazing."
For Corinne, the cause is deeply personal: "I’ve lost multiple family members to cancer, sadly before they were able to make it into The Kirkwood's care. That’s why the work you do is so important to me personally. Having a place where people can be cared for at that end of life stage is vital not just for the person themselves, but for their families too. It makes such a difference to know that there is compassion, dignity and support at such a difficult time."
Given the overwhelmingly positive response, Paws and Pals has made the Woolly Pulley campaign a fixture in its festive calendar: "We asked our customers again this year if they wanted us to take part, and once again the response was an overwhelming yes. So we’ll be running it the same week before Christmas. It’s become something our customers really look forward to, and it’s a joyful way to end the year together while raising money for charity."
The Woolly Pulley campaign at Paws and Pals has shown how even the smallest of idea of a dog in a jumper can bring people together, raise smiles and support vital local care. With customers eager to make it an annual tradition, Corinne and her team have proved that community spirit is alive and well in Huddersfield.
