Dewsbury Rockers Raise £500 in Memory of ‘Moz’ Greenwood for The Kirkwood

The Dewsbury Rockers Motorcycle Club have raised a fantastic £500 for The Kirkwood in memory of their late friend and fellow rider, Maurice “Moz” Greenwood. The funds were collected through the club’s weekly domino card, a tradition that has been a part of their community for years.

Maurice was not only a proud member of the Dewsbury Rockers but also a devoted volunteer for Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, an organisation that delivers vital medical supplies and equipment across Yorkshire. Known for his competence and compassion, Moz left a lasting legacy with both groups.

Matthew Beynon-Tullett, Communications Manager at Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, shared heartfelt words about Maurice’s contribution.

He said: “Maurice, ‘Moz’, Greenwood was a competent and passionate motorcyclist. During his time volunteering with Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, Moz volunteered for countless operational riding shifts and was very much liked and respected by his fellow Yorkshire Blood Bike riders.”

“He was committed to the charity and had a clear understanding of the benefit of the service to Yorkshire patients. He later became the charity’s Fleet Manager.”

“At the start of this year, a newly purchased car was brought into service to participate in national relays and to be used by Blood Bikers during adverse weather conditions. Maurice’s family have now been informed that this car will be named ‘Moz’ in his memory, keeping the name active in West Yorkshire for years to come.”

Catherine from Dewsbury Rockers spoke about the history of the club and their motivation behind the donation.

She commented: “Dewsbury Rockers Motorcycle Club was founded in 1964. They used to meet in the car park at the Bon Bon Café in Dewsbury. Over the years, they’ve had many biking trips to Seahouses and Northumberland, The Lakes, Scarborough, Whitley Bay, Ace Café in London, The Falkirk Wheel, and once a year went to Barton upon Humber Bike Night.

“We felt that the money we had raised for The Kirkwood was going to a worthy cause to help with the care of patients, staff etc, as one of our members lost his brother in the hospice last year. The Kirkwood is important to the Kirklees community because it can help people with life limiting illnesses in a quiet and peaceful surroundings.”

Community Fundraiser for The Kirkwood, Julia Owen, expressed her gratitude.

She said: “We are so grateful to the Dewsbury Rockers for their kind donation in memory of Maurice. This gift means so much and helps us continue to be there for people across Kirklees when they need us most.

“We’d also like to thank the Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes for their ongoing support. Their commitment to transporting essential blood and medication ensures that we can keep delivering outstanding care to those with life limiting illnesses. Maurice’s legacy truly lives on through both these incredible communities.”

The contribution from the Dewsbury Rockers is a touching tribute to a much loved member of their family, and a reminder of how powerful community, compassion and a shared passion can be in creating a lasting impact.

Back in 2023 Maurice explained how he felt about The Kirkwood whilst on our In-Patient Unit. Watch our video HERE where we spoke to 'MOZ' about his experience of our charity before his death last year.
