Getting to know… Ann Moorhouse
For our special 30th Anniversary edition of Getting to Know, we find out more about Ann Moorhouse, one of Kirkwood Hospice's longest-serving employees of 30 years.
You came here when the Hospice opened in 1987. What was your role then?
Domestic Assistant. Then Housekeeper, Office Assistant, Education Secretary, Matron’s Secretary, Director’s Secretary and now Human Resources Administrator.
What is the best thing about your role?
The diversity. Each day is different, you never know what will be thrown your way.
What is the best part of working at Kirkwood?
Over the years I have met and worked with some lovely people.
Tell us something surprising about yourself that not many people will know.
I love 1950s Rock & Roll music. I used to have motorbikes and went to lots of music festivals. Meatloaf, Motörhead and Alice Cooper are my favourites and I have seen them all live in concert.
What made you want to work for Kirkwood Hospice in the first place?
Living locally and seeing coverage about fundraising for the new Hospice, I just knew I wanted to work here.
As one of the Hospice’s longest serving employees, what advice would you give to younger or more recent employees?
The Hospice Ethos needs to be in the forefront of everyone’s mind. We have to remember we are here for the patients.
What makes Kirkwood such a special place?
Over the years it has been like a second family to me.
