“A hundred thousand thank yous” to The Kirkwood Nurses

As we celebrate International Nurses' Day, we'd like to pay tribute to our hardworking, compassionate team of nurses and thank them, on behalf of everyone connected to The Kirkwood movement, for their outstanding commitment to providing the very best care for people here in Kirklees. Whether out in the community, in people's homes or care homes, or at our hospice, our nurses deliver care which is exceptional in every way.

As well as offering vital care for people with life limiting illnesses and those at the very end of life, our teams play a vital role in helping families at what is often the most difficult time of their lives. And over the past few years, they have been challenged more than ever.

Paying a special tribute to our nurses on International Nurses’ Day, The Kirkwood's Director of Clinical Services, Lynne Hall-Bentley, said:

“I would like to say a big thank to every single one of The Kirkwood Nurses for their hard work and ongoing commitment to providing the very best compassionate care for our patients and their families.

“Our nurses provide care and support in local communities, in people’s own homes and at our hospice – and wherever they deliver this care they strive to make a real difference to our patients’ quality of life. As we celebrate International Nurses’ Day, I’d like to pay tribute to their hard work and dedication to helping those in our care make the very most of the time they have left.

"During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, our nurses played a vital role in protecting our patients, their families and our entire workforce. They were asked to change the way they worked overnight, and made huge sacrifices to keep those in our care as safe as possible. And although restrictions have been eased for most of us, our nurses and healthcare colleagues continue to work in extremely challenging circumstances. Our patients are always their priority, and they remain vigilant, continuing to help reduce the risk still posed to those in our community who are most vulnerable.

"As I pay tribute to their hard work and dedication, I am sure that our nurses will be the first to point out they wouldn't be able to deliver the outstanding care they do without the support of a wonderful team of colleagues from across the charity. From their clinical and medical colleagues to our chefs and cleaners; from our fundraisers to our passionate and committed army of volunteers; The Kirkwood are one big team.

"As a nurse, I am immensely proud of our profession – and even prouder of the way The Kirkwood Nurses continue to develop our services to make sure people in our care are given the opportunity to improve their quality of life in the ways that matter most to them.

"Whether they're providing care directly, working in support or advisory roles, delivering training or raising standards, our nurses should be extremely proud of the difference they make for the people of Kirklees. And our community should be very proud of them too.

"I hope you will all join us today to celebrate International Nurses' Day and to pay tribute to our wonderful team of nurses across our charity. You're amazing!"
