Ted Johnson

Trustee

Ted graduated in 1983 with a management studies degree. Being ‘people orientated’, it seemed logical to enter the world of Human Resources (or Personnel management as it was then called). That was the beginning of a 33 year career, during which he became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Ted worked in business sectors which included brewing and automotive before retiring as HR Director of a large retail logistics company.

Ted was raised in the Leeds area but in 1987 had the good sense to move, with his wife Sylvia, to Huddersfield where his two daughters were born.

Since retiring, Ted has taken up volunteer roles as a career coach at Huddersfield University and at Kirklees Magistrates Court supporting vulnerable witnesses. He also spends ever more time hacking around the golf course, keeping weeds at bay in his garden and harking back to his brewery days engaging with his love of real ale.

Ted says: ‘I feel privileged to be part of The Kirkwood. I am looking forward to using my business experience to further the aims of this truly inspirational organisation as it works with the local community to offer a diverse range of services for people living with life limiting illnesses’.
