Director of Income Generation & Marketing
Duncan joined The Kirkwood as Director of Income Generation & Marketing in September 2017 after a career spanning 18 years leading fundraising teams in health, children’s and conservation charities. He spent the previous five years building charitable fundraising at his local NHS hospital trust in his home city of Sheffield, where he lives with his wife and two children.
Duncan’s varied career has seen him fundraise to create nature reserves across the north of England for the RSPB, and build a helipad in Sheffield to ensure local people have rapid access to emergency care. He is now proud to work to support people with life limiting illnesses and is following in the footsteps of his mum, who was a Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurse at her local hospice.
Committed to celebrating those who choose to give their time or a donation to good causes, and to ensuring supporters are involved and included right at the heart of a charity, Duncan is a member of the Institute of Fundraising. He is also a volunteer on its national steering committee for the Donor Experience, which is responsible for collecting and sharing best practice across the charity sector.
Duncan is a fan of Sheffield Wednesday, but admits to being relieved – if only a little – when Huddersfield Town beat them in the playoff semi final the weekend before he was interviewed for the role at The Kirkwood. He has recently discovered a love of cycling, despite living in a city built on seven hills!
