Keep Kirkwood Shining Brightly
We are delighted to be part of a brand new campaign that runs on ITV Yorkshire throughout March. Along with other local hospices across our region, we are using this opportunity to highlight the expert care, comfort and support we are able to offer, completely free of charge to growing numbers of people each year - and say a huge thank you, because none of it would be possible without the support of our local communities.
We are here to support anyone affected by a life limiting illness, every step of the way.
Did you know... In Kirklees, only Kirkwood Nurses provide specialist palliative support to people in their own homes.
With your help, we will make sure we are here to support others on their own journey.
There are many reasons that people choose to support Kirkwood. For some, its' an important way to pay tribute to the life of a loved one who has received care from Kirkwood. For others, it's a chance to support a local charity that cares for thousands of people in the local community every year.
Kirkwood Hospice has 19 shops across Kirklees, as well as a Cafe and Gift Shop in the Denby Dale Community Library. We even have an eBay shop. Our shops are a large source of income for Kirkwood, raising lots of money every year as well as being a contact point on the high street.
Our shops are run by a team of staff and volunteers, selling a fantastic range of women’s, men’s and children’s clothing and accessories, books, furniture, toys, homeware, electrical items and more.
Kirkwood's shops can accept unwanted men’s, women’s and children’s clothes, shoes, handbags, toys, games, books, music and bric-a-brac and some electrical items.
Almost all our work is funded by the public. Donations, no matter how big or small, will help us to care for even more adults affected by any life limiting illness.
We are tremendously grateful for your donations, literally every penny counts. From something as simple as a hot meal, to bereavement support or care for our community patients in their own homes.
The care and support we offer across Kirklees is given entirely free of charge to our patients and their families. This mean we rely upon the generous support of our supporters and the community to help us raise money that it costs to keep our doors open. Donating online is a quick and simple way of supporting the work of Kirkwood. Your generosity will make a huge difference to the care we provide for anyone affected by a life limiting illnesses in Kirklees.
Gifts in wills are one of our most important sources of funding for Kirkwood Hospice. We don’t charge for any of our services to support people with life limiting illnesses, their families and carers across Kirklees, which means we're reliant on voluntary donations to fund the care we give and ensure we're there for future generations of people who might need our support.
The money we receive through gifts in wills funds the care of a large number of our patients. Hospices receive very little government funding and we must raise the rest of our funds through the dedication and kindness of supporters across our region, for which we are incredibly grateful.
Naturally, when making your will you'll want to make sure that those close to you come first, but remembering your local hospice alongside your family and friends will mean we are here for them too, should they need us.

Volunteers are at the heart of the care hospices provide to local people with life limiting illnesses. Whatever your skills, we’ll have a role to suit you.
Whether you are a volunteer cheering on runners at events, manning stalls and holding collections, keeping our gardens looking at their best, welcoming visitors at reception, shopping for patients on the ward, providing complementary therapies, sorting clothes and serving customers in our charity shops, providing spiritual and emotional support to patients and their families, or providing administrative support and expertise, you all contribute to helping hospices across the region care for people at the most difficult time in their lives.
All of our fundraising events and activities raise money towards the vital work of Kirkwood and are a considerable source of income for us.
We have a wide and varied schedule of events and activities in our calendar that you can take part in. Whether you want to accomplish a personal best at a running event, or take on a team challenge with your friends, family or colleagues, there is something for everyone!
